Thoughts for Week 8

As I will be climbing Italian mountains on a bike next week, I won't be able to post previews just ahead of kick-off. Instead, I will write short previews here. Hopefully, I can find some quality picks, where odds will drop until kick-off.

Hobro-AGF
Hobro have ended the transfer window in a signing frenzy. They have signed three foreign players and all of them are definitely capable. I have high expectations for the new striker Pål Kirkevold who have looked fairly good when watching Sandefjord. He will be a big upgrade in attack. However, I am concerned by the many new signings for Hobro - I fear they might be losing the team spirit that brought them here despite of the odds. AGF have been very strong this season. They have obtained good results and they have deserved it. They are without injuries and I expect them to dominate Hobro, who will need more time to integrate the many new signings (11 this summer).

Recommendation: 2 - 2.15 at Tipico

Viborg-FC Nordsjælland
Viborg are a solid team that is difficult to break down. They will be difficult to beat. FC Nordsjælland have more quality but motivation is often an issue. Furthermore, they will be without two starters here, right back Ramon Rodrigues and winger David Moberg-Karlsson. I see this match as quite equal. I pick the draw here, but would rather skip the match.

Randers-SønderjyskE
Randers have had a decent start to the season, but the have been quite volatile in their performances.  Randers are typically strongest against competitors who wants to play football. This is not always the case with SønderjyskE who will approach this match defensively with a strategy to counter-attack. SønderjyskE have several injuries and just sold their best player Bjørn Paulsen. The material is not optimal, so it will be difficult. Nevertheless, they are so strong defensively that I would go for them at the current price.

Idea: 2 (AH +0.5) - 2.025 at Bet365

FC Copenhagen-AaB
FC Copenhagen have disappointed in terms of results, but they have a very strong team and they benefit from the return of strong central midfielder Daniel Amartey here. However, FC Copenhagen have huge problems in front of goal, where the offensive players are unable to score. AaB have fine team with many technical players. Two things are against them here. They are likely to be without the two vital players Kasper Risgaard and Kenneth Emil Petersen and they have a terrible away record in Copenhagen, where they are often dominated. Given the offensive struggles of FC Copenhagen and the poor track record of AaB in Copenhagen, a low scoring match is likely.

Idea: Under 2.5 goals - 1.98 at Unibet

Brøndby-FC Midtjylland
I am pretty surprised by the odds here. Brøndby have been pretty inconsistent and although they seem to be improving I did not expect them to be the bookies favorites here. FC Midtjylland are looking really solid and their 1st place is fully deserved. They have a complete team and are not bothered by injuries for vital players. FC Midtjylland have only conceded 13 shots on target in the first 7 matches! Brøndby's attack is nothing spectacular, so I have troubles seeing how they can break down the solid FC Midtjylland defence. On the other hand, Brøndby's defence is surely improving with Daniel Agger back, but it is not top quality. To a comparison, they have allowed 31 shots on target in the first 7 matches. I hold FC Midtjylland as slim favorites despite of playing away from home, so great value in the current odds.

Tip of the Week: 2 (AH +0) - 2.15 at Bet365

Esbjerg-OB
Esbjerg have been really poor so far and I don't think the quality on the pitch has improved after changing head coach. Esbjerg were lucky last weekend against AGF, where they failed to produce anything offensively. Esbjerg used the last hours of the transfer window to make to significant upgrades. Bjørn Paulsen bought for the central defence and Victor Palsson for the central midfield. I am quite sure that both will have a positive impact on Esbjerg's performance, but I think it is optimistic to believe it will work from day one. Esbjerg will be without vital right back Ryan Laursen, so Esbjerg will be forced to used a central defender on the back against one of OB's strong wingers. OB impressed me last weekend. They were at times under heavy pressure against FC Copenhagen, but using Lasse Nielsen in the central defence had a tremendous positive effect. Offensively, they are among the strongest in the league, and they are especially poisonous on counter-attacks. Esbjerg lost a similar home game to SønderjyskE with 0-4 some weeks ago. Only minus for OB is the suspended right back Oliver Lund, which probably lead to a natural left back being moved to the right back position. However, Esbjerg are rather toothless through the left wing. Cashpoint with a very nice price here.

Recommendation: 2 (DNB) - 2.79 at Cashpoint
