FC Midtjylland-Brøndby

We have just published a review where we pick out FC Midtjylland (1st) as the most likely candidate for the title this season. Nevertheless we believe that FC Midtjylland face a difficult challenge on Sunday. FC Midtjylland will be without the suspended regulars: midfielder Petter Andersson, central defender Patrick Banggaard and left back Jesper Juelsgård. Add to this that their top scorer Morten Duncan Rasmussen is not expected to play due to an injury. So coach Riddersholm got a lot of worries. FC Midtjylland have won two matches in a row, but a hattrick seems far away with all these concerns. Brøndby (4th) are really impressing at the moment. Eight matches without a loss and four clean sheets in a row! This is particularly impressive when you add that Brøndby have been burdened by injuries to several key players in this period. Several of these players are expected to return: midfielder Martin Ørnskov and attacker Quincy Antipas are reported as the most likely, while midfielder Thomas Kahlenberg and striker Simon Makienok are more doubtful. Especially Makienok could be a valuable addition since other striker Kenneth Zohore is suspended for the match. If Makienok is not fit, Brøndby could be forced to play with some of the old failures, Bernburg and Akpoveta, or a more defensive approach with Antipas as a lone striker. The hunt for a fit striker with dangerous boots is the big issue. Brøndby’s scoring efficiency is the lowest in the league (19%) and only a strong performance by the defence has kept the no losing streak alive.

The injury updates will be very relevant for this match. Midtjylland look toothless on top without Duncan and facing the strong defence of Brøndby it could be a boring match for the score-keeper in Herning. Brøndby’s chances for a victory are highly correlated with whether Makienok is ready. If he is, and we believe so, Brøndby should be slim favourites. If not, FC Midtjylland should be favourites and the market is priced fairly. Our opinion is that a bet on Brøndby should be a favourable: fine upside and zero downside (value wise).
