After an
unexpected win in the Champions League FC Copenhagen (4th) looks like a team that is on to a new
mission: winning the league. This week Esbjerg (9th) will be at the receiving end of
a team in good form. With three wins in the last four games the defending
champions are climbing the table quite fast and can now smell the top.
Especially the wingers are showing promising signs. Nicolai Jørgensen stands
out and he topped it off with two goals last week against FC Nordsjælland. The search
for a striker also looks to be set on hold. Igor Vetokele has scored five goals
in his last six starts and he scored the other two goals against FC Nordjsælland. Only problem is that winger Rurik Gislason left the game
Tuesday with an injury and no reports have been received on how bad it is. On
the contrary to the climb that FC Copenhagen have done, Esbjerg are in free
fall down the table. With four losses in just as many games the former contenders are
now dangerously close to the relegation spots. Midfielder Magnus Lekven is not
expected to play due to an injury and winger Jacob Ankersen is suspended.
The problem at the moment for Esbjerg is that the strikers can’t score. This is
evident in the last three matches where Esbjerg have not scored. Without Jakob Ankersen on the wing, it is difficult to see where Esbjerg's offensive threats should come from.
With two
important players out and with strikers who can not score it will be an uphill
battle for Esbjerg. FC Copenhagen are on a stride at the moment at it looks
like it will continue this weekend. We give them at least 50% chance of winning this one. Esbjerg have an important Europa League match just 70 hours before this one and could be affected.
